Abstract

There are two types of endocannabinoids, anandamide and 2-arachidonoyl glycerol. They show their effects through cannabinoid receptor type 1 and cannabinoid receptor type 2. They are found in the brain cortex, hippocampus, cerebellum, brainstem, and basal ganglia. Neurodegenerative diseases are basically caused by chronic inflammation of the microglia, and endocannabinoids have neuroprotective effects on this inflammation. In this review, we examined the effects of endocannabinoids on Alzheimer's disease.
